- Undergraduate Internship Enrichment Fund: The College of Health and Human Development will be offering funds to provide assistance for undergraduate students in the College who are completing a credit-bearing field experience, practicum, or internship as part of their course of studies. Fund expenditures shall conform to University policy and may include, but not necessarily limited to, tuition costs, scholarships, housing costs, transportation and parking, and professional attire. Students eligible for this funding may be completing their internship in Spring 2019, Summer 2019, and Fall 2019. Students interested in receiving this funding should apply by April 1 at https://hhd.psu.edu/undergraduate-internship-enrichment-fund. - An Evening with Bryan Stevenson at Penn State Eisenhower Auditorium, Wednesday, March 20, at 7:00pm The Rock Ethics Institute’s 2019 Richard D. Lippin Lecture in Ethics, in partnership with the Student Programming Association Distinguished Speaker Series, will feature award-winning author and lawyer Bryan Stevenson on March 20, 2019, in Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium. Stevenson is author of the New York Times bestseller Just Mercy and one of the leading voices for civil rights and criminal justice reform in America today. His lecture will explore what justice demands, both inside and outside the courtroom, and the need to address the legacy of racial violence and oppression in the U.S. The event will be free and open to the public, but a ticket will be required to attend. Tickets are available at one of three locations: Eisenhower Auditorium, Bryce Jordan Center, and Penn State Downtown Theatre. Stevenson is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in Montgomery, Alabama. Under his leadership, EJI has won significant legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting the abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults. Stevenson recently won a historic ruling in the U.S. Supreme Court banning mandatory life-without-parole sentences for all children 17 or younger. In April 2018, EJI opened a national memorial to victims of lynching, The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, as well as a companion museum, The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration, built on the site of a former slave warehouse in downtown Montgomery.

- The Student Engagement Network Grant Program is accepting applications for Summer 2019 funding! The SEN will be awarding grants of up to $3,000 to support student engagement experiences. Examples include financial support for unpaid internships or research opportunities, living expenses, travel costs, and conference fees. Grant funding can also be used to compensate a student working fewer hours in order to be involved in a student club or organization on campus. - HHD Small Project Grants Nomination deadline: March 15–The Small Project Grant program provides students and faculty members with an additional source of funding for projects that benefit the University community and/or enhance students’ experiences in the College of Health and Human Development. Such projects may include, but are not limited to, student organization service projects or events, undergraduate or graduate student research not pertaining to a thesis or dissertation, and projects that promote collaboration among students and faculty members.

- Penn State Leadership Institute – Apply Now!The Penn State Leadership Institute is an innovative leadership retreat designed for undergraduate students at University Park to build meaningful connections with their peers. This six-day leadership development experience fosters a collaborative and engaging environment for students to grow as an individual, a professional, and a community member. The Leadership Institute views leadership as a process, not a position so leaders of any level of experience are encouraged to apply. Applications are being collected through March 18th. - HHD Alumni Society Research Poster Competition: The Health and Human Development Alumni Society Research Poster Competition celebrates research by undergraduate students in the College of Health and Human Development. Undergraduate students from all HHD programs are invited to present a research poster at the HHD Alumni Society’s annual spring reception and dinner on Friday, April 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Inn. Alumni serve as judges for the poster competition, and cash prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place. Students who have created or are creating a poster for another event, including the Penn State Undergraduate Research Exhibition, are permitted to use that poster for this event.

- A new semester long residential program, Study Away Pittsburgh, is a good alternative learning experience for junior and senior level students. Study Away Pittsburgh is an affordable, transformative, urban educational experience for Penn State students in fall 2019. Modeled after Study Abroad, students are placed with community partners, and participate in an in-depth, community based learning experience in sustainability while residing in Pittsburgh for the entire semester. The community partners that students are placed with include non-profit advocacy groups, governmental agencies, multidisciplinary design firms, health care providers, socially responsible businesses and many more. CCSA will host an annual conference that brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public to discuss significant and emerging problems in combating substance abuse. Our upcoming national conference, Envisioning a Future Free from Addiction: Research, Programs, and Practice to Prevent Substance Abuse, will be held Monday, April 29, 2019 on Penn State’s University Park campus.

But, we also know our faculty are wonderful people, and would love the opportunity to get to know you. The charge card has a set monthly limit, so call early in the month to reserve your place. AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS
- The University Fellowships Office is hosting a spring campus evaluation process for the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, and Churchill Scholarships. These opportunities all require early identification, extensive mentorship, and University nomination. Interested Penn State students must participate in this campus process in order to be considered for University nomination. The deadline to submit an application through InfoReady is March 18th
- The Undergraduate Exhibition All Penn State undergraduate students, regardless of campus location, are eligible to enter the Undergraduate Exhibition. The 2019 exhibition will feature different presentation types within two different time slots:
- Engagement Experience Poster Exhibition (11 am – 1 pm) Posters highlighting student achievements in engaged learning experiences (NOT a research poster)
- Undergraduate Exhibition for Research, Inquiry, or Creative Activity (4 – 7 pm) Traditional research posters
- Oral research presentation— 5 minute presentation for disciplines or projects for whom traditional research posters are not traditionally used
- Performance – 5 minute performance (music, writing, poetry reading, dance, theatre, etc.)

- Undergraduate Research Conference Travel Support Penn State undergraduates who are presenting the results of their research or creative work at national or regional professional conferences may request financial support to defray the costs of attendance at the conference.

- ADRI Event-Rethinking Presence in Performing Arts Tuesday, March 19, 2019 – 12:00pm to 1:00pm Andy Belser TeachingPresence is a treasured commodity that runs through all cultures. In the performing arts it is palpable when performers are living fully in moments, but however fervent the devotion to such practice may be, presence is too often elusive. In this talk, Andy Belser will highlight sections of his upcoming book The Performer’s Field Guide to Applied Neuroscience (Routledge, 2019), which seek to reframe presence using Western neuroscience research blended with neuroscience research in Eastern contemplative practices as roadmaps toward new ways of practicing presence in performance.

- Borland Project Space | Impressionism and the Art of Medical Communication On Display March 11-21—This exhibition presents the work of students from the course “Impressionism and the Art of Medical Communication,” a Penn State College of Medicine course co-taught by faculty in the Department of Art History and the College of Medicine. In the course, Impressionism and active painting are used as teaching and learning tools for effective medical communication.
