Sweden: Day 1

It almost doesn’t feel real that I am finally in Sweden, after anxiously waiting 4 1/2 months. I have heard people rave about how beautiful and scenic Sweden is, but I didn’t know what they meant until now. I flew in yesterday (May 17th) with a few other students to Gothenburg to venture on our own and it has been quite an experience so far. I’ve managed to navigate Gothenburg’s many forms of public transportation (bus, tram, and ferry), eat “American” food that doesn’t quite taste the same (ex. a hot dog and ice cream), and today (May 18th) I visited Vrango (the southern most island of the southern archipelago) about 40 minutes outside of Gothenburg via the ferry. To say that the islands are breathtaking is an understatement. They are unlike anything I have ever seen before in person and pictures do not do it justice. Now that I am with the whole group in Jonkoping, we will be starting our journey tomorrow here with a company visit, attending a lecture at the local university, and going to a park nearby. Stay tuned!

I’ve never made it to Sweden, but you are certainly making me want to visit (you may have a future position in travel writing for the Swedish government).
