Ask anyone this question, and immediately, they will probably answer with showers. Baths require a vast amount of water. However, this can be a misconception; just because you see all of the water in a mass amount, does not mean the shower does not use just as much water, if not more.
A standard bathtub holds about 42 gallons, but leaving room for the individual in the tub, the average bath is about 30 gallons.
The standard shower head uses about 2.5 gallons per minute.
(These statistics were found at http://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/water-and-drought/article2591077.html)
So, 30 gallons/2.5 gallons per minute = 12 minutes.
To answer the question of which is a wiser choice depends how long you wish to bathe for. Plan on a short time? Under 12 minutes, it would be wise to go for a shower, but if you intend on bathing over 12 minutes, a bath might be the choice for you.
Personally, I have long and thick hair, so 12 minutes is not enough time for me. My showers average around half an hour, so my average shower would use 75 gallons. I don’t need to use mathematics to tell you 75 gallons is FAR MORE than 30 gallons!
Next time you want to wash off, take a second to think about which is the right option for you, as well as the right option for the environment!
Baths, though the less popular choice due to time restraints, just might be better for you. Hey, it worked for Chandler from Friends!
