iPhone 5

Over the years I’ve begged my parents for an iPhone, and the response has been the same old “no” each time.  Now I have a new reason to beg, because the iPhone 5 has just been released and it is better than ever.  With a new sleek design, bigger screen, and faster processor, how could you pass it up? But, is it really worth the price?

Unfortunately, the convenience and reliability of the iPhone 5 does not come at a cheap price.  A 64GB iPhone will cost you an astounding $399.  Now you’re thinking this phone better be coated in gold for it to be worth that much.  Sadly, it is not covered in gold, but it does have some great new and updated features that will make some even more interested in purchasing one.

A bigger screen is one of the great new design features that the iPhone 5 has to offer.   It allows for HD video to display in its true 16:9 format and makes browsing, playing games, or watching videos easier to see.  The iPhone 5 also has a faster processor, and Apple states that Apps will download twice as fast as before.  The camera and battery life has also been greatly improved.  The camera has improved video stabilization, and allows you to take still pictures simultaneously while you shoot video.  Also, Facetime, a video chat application, will now be in HD.  The battery life was one of the aspects of the iPhone that Apple greatly wanted to improve, and it did by 10%, but in my opinion I don’t think it’s that great of an increase.  Nevertheless it is an increase and that’s all you can ask for.

The design change that stunned me the most was the new dock connector.  Up to this point, every Apple iPhone and iPod touch have had the same dock connector that was used for charging a phone, downloading from a computer, and playing music on speakers.  Now the connector is 80% smaller than the one previously in every other product.  This will cause everyone who buys the iPhone 5 to buy all new accessories as well.  Most of these accessories aren’t that cheap either, so this design change, to me, is not one of their best ideas.

In the end, the question was “is it worth it?” In my opinion and in the opinion of Becky Worley, the author of the article “iPhone 5- Is it Worth the Money?”, we believe that it is only worth it if you have an iPhone 4 or earlier.  If you buy an iPhone 5, you do get the brand new features, but you also have to pay for all new accessories, which I believe is not worth it.

Good coverage and plenty of references

You parents are worried about costs and that is mostly the contract. Get the cheapest data plan and use wi-fi where ever you can. And offer to split the bill

Or just pick up a Touch or net book for ~$200 and use with wi-fi to supplement your cell phone. Make sure your netbook has flash memory for instant on
