I remember back when everybody wore mood rings. It was always cool to see what people were “feeling”, or at least what the ring thought we were feeling. I never understood them to be honest. When I read a twitter post about these new bracelets called lokai bracelets, I thought they were really interesting. There is a whole story behind what looks like such a simple bracelet.
The white bead is filled with water from Mt. Everest, which is the highest point on Earth. This is to remind you that even when you are feeling on top of the world, to always stay humble. The black bead is filled with mud from the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, and symbolizes that even when you feel like you’ve hit a low, to stay hopeful.
Every time someone tells me that they like my bracelet or when they ask me what it is, I explain to them what the beads represent, and it reminds me that I am wearing the bracelet for more than just an accessory. This bracelet is a reminder how life works. Its full of its ups and downs, but if we have the right mindset, we will be able to move on to the next step.
As Her Campus states, “The highs and lows of life coexist to keep us balanced; we must be grateful when we are at our highs, and know that things will soon get better when we are at our lows. The lokai bracelets remind us that we must stay balanced throughout times of triumph, tribulation, and everything that comes between the two.”
You may think it is just a meaningless bracelet, but next time you don’t know how to react to something that life throws your way, live like lokai.

I wear my lokai bracelet everyday! I actually feel more calm and relaxed about life and certain situations than I did before. I usually do not believe in superstitions like that, but I do feel a difference. The water from the highest point in the world to the mud from the lowest point in the world allows us to find that middle balance.
I love these bracelets! i really love what they represent and I love the meanings. I love how people wear them for more than fashion and I think they are creating an awesome meaning and message
Sara, I own one of these bracelets so this post caught my eye. Truthfully, I went to purchase the bracelet because I like the way it looks. Upon opening the packaging, however, I noticed the information that you just reiterated in your blog post. I tend to be cynical and was therefore left thinking about the validity of the Lokai bracelet maker’s claims. Here is a video of a girl testing whether this is fact or fiction by cutting open the bracelet. She seems to find it difficult to see the remains of anything natural in the silicon balls. After doing research on the Lokai website however, I concluded that the story must be legit due to the extensive moral jeopardy the company would be placing itself in if it was false. On the website there is a video of a Mount Everest expedition in which the company is collecting water for the product ; therefore, we can safely presume that the claims are indeed true.
I, myself, having a lokai preach “Live Like Lokai.” I do not care if the water is actually from Mt. Everest or if the mud is actually from the Dead Sea; I think that the meaning behind the bracelet itself is beautiful. I believe it is important to always stay humble when you are feeling on top of the world and its important ot stay hopeful when you’re really sad. I love Lokai bracelets and wear mine everyday. I think it is important to remind yourself of these values everyday.
Being the skeptical person that I am, I have a really hard time believing that all of these bracelets actually have water from Mt. Everest and mud from the dead sea. But, I think the way that you look at it is really cool; its not what it actually is, but it is what it represents. I think the world of science does not follow this logic much, but in general it is a cool way to think.
I have a Lokai bracelet myself and I love it because it reminds me of just that! I do agree that there are a lot of people who don’t understand the true meaning behind the bracelet. It is definitely not just an accessory! With that being said, I do believe we should “Live Like Lokai” because it is a positive message that will guide us to living a balanced life.
