Why I Snuggle

If you say that you don’t enjoy spooning, you are lying.

Spooning is the best thing to do with your significant other and maybe even your best friends.  But it is also been proven to have some positive effects on the body.

The most important thing that spooning does for your body, is that it relieves stress.  When you snuggle, your body releases oxytocin. It is the hormone that makes you happy!  Oxytocin also helps relieve anxiety, and lowers your risk of heart disease. All these added benefits just for cuddling with someone? Who wouldn’t love it?

Cuddles can help fight off infections. One study even shows that those who get less hugs in their lives were more likely to get the common cold! I don’t know about you guys, but I would snuggle with someone in a heartbeat if it meant I didn’t have to suffer from the plague.

Now, don’t worry if you’re single or have no friends, studies have shown that snuggling with pets actually has the same effects on your body.

GO OUT AND HUG/CUDDLE SOMEONE! It’ll make everyone feel better 🙂

I love this topic. Snuggling is a great way to feel protected and loved by either a significant lover or best friend. I miss snuggling with my people back home, but I guess my body pillow does the job for now.

I love snuggling, especially in the winter when it gets very cold outside. When I am stressed out I go and snuggle with my dog in my family room. I do believe that cuddling up with my dog near the fireplace relieves a lot of stress and allows me to relax. And I never knew that snuggling releases a hormone that actually makes you happy.
I came across another thing Oxytocin is used for. In this article it states that Oxytocin “promotes mother-child bonding”. This means mothers are more likely to engage in activities such as bathing her baby, and rocking the baby to sleep.

Very interesting and informative post! It’s interesting to know there is a specific hormonal reaction that happens during cuddling.

Not even going to lie, I spoon with my best friend all the time. Even though it’s kind of weird, now I can have an excuse for it. And it DOES make me happy when we do, and we always laugh about it when we do. I had no idea that snuggling was a stress reliever, and its really cool that it does. I always rely on my friends when I am in a stressful situation, so now I know that I can just cuddle with them to make everything better!

This topic is spot on! I have a long distance boyfriend, and right now with all the stress of college it would be great to cuddle! It is so true that cuddling is a great way to make someone feel instantly happier!
