I have seen everyone for the most part posting about love. Whether it’s explaining what it is or how it has evolved. But I did not see one on how you know that you are in love. Yes, we have all felt love in some type of way, shape or form. Hey, I taste love every time I each french toast sticks. But the thing is, people don’t honestly know if they are in love. New relationships form and the first thing you hear is, “I love you”. You’ve been dating for a month people! I can honestly say I know you are not in love. But then again, I might be wrong. The really might. So to find the answer to my question, I did some Scientific searching.
I found that Scientists can scan your brain to determine if you are in love. The team of Scientists scanned 100 student brains from Southwest University in China and found them in different stages of love from several reasons. They used resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to compare the brain activity between the three different groups. First group was of 34 people who have been in love for between 4 to 18 months. Next was 34 who had recently broken up with someone they loved and last was 32 who had never been loved at all. There was no great difference in age. personal monthly expenses, family income, or years of education. It was for the most part random. The data was to be clear and not focused on a certain age group.
The participants were told to think nothing in particular during the scans so that the scientists could get a feel of how their brains worked overall. The ones “in love” had increased activity in several areas of their brain. The amount of activity in the brain was noticed from the Scientist and saw it was linked to the amount of time someone had been in love. The longer someone loves someone, the more activity they had. The group that had the “broken love” had lower activity in the brain regions. The caudate nucleus seemed to be helping people cope with end of a love affair.
The entire study isn’t perfect but it’s good enough to show on a scan that one is in love. It does not tell you if your love will last but it will tell the amount of love for a person you have based on the activity level going on. I found that this research was very interesting. Especially looking at the brain scan. If you want more in depth look and read about the brain study, this link could help.
I also always wondered how people could be in love after a month. It’s interesting to know that part of the brain can be “damaged” due to a break up. Here is more information on the natural chemistry and the feeling of being in love.
Love is a feeling humans know through a series of chemical releases. Love can also be toxic. I have never fell in love. But i have read this in an article!
Thanks for the post, it was good to read! I was super intrigued by this topic!!

This is a very interesting topic to cover! I think it’s interesting to see how our brains change throughout different stages of love. I’m also with you on the love for french toast sticks.
I have always wondered this, but never took the time to research it. Very interesting.
This article really interests me because I often think people forget that falling in love is not just emotional, but biological as well. Our hormone levels actually change. Due to this, I can understand how our brain would change as well. I would love this study to be done on more people, so we can start seeing more conclusive proof.
