Twin Telepathy: Myth or Possibility?

As a twin, I constantly get jokingly asked if my sister and I had twin telepathy. I never thought of it is a being a feasible theory, but we are also fraternal (Dizygotic) twins. There were times that we would both say something at the same time, but that could very easily be do t2000px-Identical-fraternal-sperm-egg.svgo chance. Its not like I would get punched in the arm and she would feel my pain. Could it be possible for identical (monozygotic) twins to have such a power? Identical twins form in the womb when an embryo collapses, thus causing the progenitor cell to split forming two separate babies. Their DNA is extremely similar, and even more similar than fraternal twins.

Telepathy is considered the communication between minds. While there is no scientific proof suggesting that twin telepathy is real, there are numerous accounts that suggest otherwise. One mother recollected on an event that occurred when her identical twin daughters were four. One of her twins was in thtwin-telepathye classroom while the other was in the gymnasium. The twin in the classroom suggested her twin sister had gotten run over by a scooter, and it turned out she was correct. They were no where near each other when it happened. Could this be pure luck or chance? Like all scientific observations, this could 100% be due to chance.

Some people feel that the closeness they have is what causes them to experience telepathy. Another account of possible telepathy is called the “Jim Twins.” This set of twins had never met each other in their life and did not even know they had a brother. The brothers ended up marrying women with identical names, named their dogs and children the same names, and they both even built a white bench to put around a tree. Once again many will argue chance, but it is hard to believe all of that is due to chance. The brothers were shocked when they found out about each other and the many similarities. Scientists say that if they were raised together it would barely affect their personalities.

One theory behind how twin telepathy could occur is that similar brainwaves will cause twins to act similar. When twins are young they often understand what each other is saying even though they are too young too speak words. If they can understand what the other is getting across maybe this can point to the theory of telepathy. telepathy.

There is no evidence that points to the idea that twins can read each others minds, but it is possible that twins do sense what the other twin may be feeling at times. There are a multitude of personnel accounts that point to this theory being true, but there is not enough evidence to fail to reject the hypothesis due to the chance factor in most personnel accounts and stories.

Very interesting! This topic was definitely and fun read on a cool topic. If I was a twin as well I could totally see this being a topic on interest. What really intrigued me about this post was probably the “Jim Twins”. Something like that seems so crazy it’s almost unbelievable; however I do agree with your decision to reject the hypothesis. The personal accounts are very cool but a conclusion can’t be made by hear say. An interesting read can be found here . One of the stories mentioned in the article was actually brought up in your post.

I thought this was a very interesting topic, and an interesting concept. I have identical twin cousins who just turned 3. They were born at 31 weeks old, so some of their developmental skills take a little longer than many kids their age. For example, they did not really start talking where you could understand them until closer to them turning 3. But they somehow always seemed liked they could understand each other. I often wondered if this was, “Twin Telepathy”, or just because they spend so much time together. However, after reading your blog, it seems like it is more likely that they just have spent their entire lives together so far. I would agree with you when you rejected the hypothesis. I also found the “Jim Twins” story extremely interesting. Overall, this was a well-written and interesting blog.

This was a really cool blog topic, especially because you clearly have credibility by being a twin. Two sets of twins that I know are my best friends and they joke all the time that they have twin telepathy, but I’ve always wondered if it is actually a real thing. The stories about the scooter and the “Jim Twins” was really fascinating and it definitely made me more convinced of the possibility of twin telepathy. I agree with you that all of this evidence could be due to chance, but it is a possibility that people should be aware of. I think a lot of third variables would affect this conclusion such as gender. Sometimes twins of the same gender are closer and more in sync because they do the same gender-related activities. I think it would very interesting to do a study on co-gender twins vs. same-gender twins and see how the twin telepathy differs.

Twin telepathy has always been an interesting topic to me. Growing up there were two identical twins in my grade. They were exactly alike, from what they looked like to how they acted. On the other hand, I met two twin girls at college who were twins but acted so differently. One loved to go out and hang with friends while the other always put her school work first. The first group of girls said that they experienced twin telepathy while the other set said they never did. I decided to look deeper into your study and see if all twins have experienced some form of twin telepathy. Only 1 out of 4 sets of twins that they actually experienced some form of telepathy. That is not that much for something that is seems to be so real. This could be because twin telepathy may really not be a thing. Many scientists believe twins finish each other sentences is just because twins know each other so well. Think about it, growing up and living with someone will cause you to learn a lot about them and know their personality. It’s just like with your parents and friends too, the more you get to know someone the better you can figure out how they act or what they are going to say next. Many stories that are online are ones that are very intense but most of them have explanations. For example, Gemma and Leanne Houghton were two twins. Gemma saved Leanne’s life by what many believe twin telepathy. Leanne was in the bathtub when she had a seizure, Gemma felt like something was wrong and when she went to check on her she saw Leanne in the bath tub. Leanna would have not lived if Gemma didn’t check on her when she did. Although this is a very interesting story, it isn’t necessarily twin telepathy. Leanna had suffered from many seizures before and it could of been Gemma just being nervous and paranoid which caused her to check on her twin, Leanne. Twin telepathy is very interesting but I think there needs to be more scientific studies to figure out if it’s actually real. For example, separating twins and seeing how well they know each other, which is a huge determinant of “twin telepathy.”
