It is VIEWS SZN (views season)! That’s right guys, Drake is finally releasing Views From the 6. The album is set to release on Friday April 29, 2016. That’s NEXT FRIDAY! He’s already released the super catchy track Summer Sixteen, which took me forever to hear since I don’t have Apple Music (but that’s a story for another time). But when I finally did get to listen….
I loved it! Honestly it feels like the ultimate “glo up” song. This is the type of song that you dedicate to all of the people that ever doubted you, talked about you, or wished for your failure. I feel like that is exactly what Drake that is doing in this song, in addition to solidifying his position in the hip-hop/rap industry.
With all of the drama behind the whole Drake/Meek Mill beef situation Drake has shown that he sees no reason in continuing any type of arguments about who won what and who is on top. He is at the point where he feels he has more than established himself and any discussions about his status are irrelevant. And I actually agree.
Now I hate to be a stan (a maniacally super crazed fan, like Stan from Eminem’s song, Stan), but honestly, I agree with the message that he is trying to communicate. Now I can’t speak for all of the Drake fans out there, but I have been listening to Drake since about 2008-2009. This was before all of the hype behind his “So Far Gone” or his song Best I Ever Had. I have seen and heard his transformation as an artist and I feel that the level he has reached is absolutely fitting to the amount of time and effort he has put into his career. Initially, a lot of people still saw Drake as the teenage actor from the television series Degrassi, who made lovey, “in your feelings” types of songs. But now, he has made a name for himself as much more than that. And Summer Sixteen is just the beginning of that new era.
I look forward to hearing “Views from the Six” and I really hope it lives up to the hype that surrounds it.
