Materials

Materials for students to purchase to participate in the series:

REQUIRED

  • Raspberry Pi Kit (model 3b+ or newer): $60-$100 depending on GB size
    • Recommended: Raspberry Pi 4 Basic Started Kit w/ 2GB RAM(should include at least a RPi4, fan cooled protection case – make sure you have access to the GPIO pins, and a power cord)
      • NOTE: some kits may contain less or more… depending on how much you are looking to spend, there are plenty of options on Amazon to fit your budget.
  • MicroSD card (at least 8GB will suffice… 32GB recommended if you plan to continue using the Raspberry Pi in the future)
  • Breadboard: ~$10
    • There are various sizes of breadboards available to purchase. Due to a high volume of components in a couple of the projects, we recommend having at least medium size board (pictured below): How to Use a Breadboard - learn.sparkfun.com
  • Breadboard Jumper Wires (male-to-female, and female-to-female): $5-$10

Additional suggestions:

  • USB-to-MicroSD adapter: ~$5
    • If your laptop does not have a SD or microSD slot, you should look into purchasing an apapter. Anytime you have an SD card that you might want to flash an image onto, you will need the adapter.
