Shantanab is pursuing a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, and works at the 3D Bioprinting Lab at Penn State. His field of interest is manufacturing, with a focus on additive manufacturing and tissue engineering. Currently, he is working on developing 3D printable and biodegradable metal implants for bone regeneration.
Shantanab also completed his master’s degree at Penn State, where he worked as a research assistant at the Engineering Design and Optimization lab. His thesis was on education and assessment tools in additive manufacturing, creating a software and mobile app for evaluating the manufacturability of parts via 3D printing.
Shantanab graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing engineering and a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from BITS Pilani, India in 2014. Before joining Penn State, he worked as a Research Assistant in IIT Delhi on non-conventional machining and 3D printing using FDM. During his undergrad, he worked on areas such as Sustainable and Lean Manufacturing, doing his bachelor’s thesis on Enterprise sustainability. He has also done various internships in the manufacturing sector, working on process capability improvement and machine optimization using Design of Experiments on machine parameters. Outside of academics, Shantanab enjoys outdoor activities including Soccer, Tennis and trekking. He is also a history buff and likes working on construction models in his free time.
