The 3rd Annual UPLEA ArtsFest is coming soon

Submitted by Lisa Morgan, on behalf of the UPLEA ArtsFest Committee

After spending last week perusing the many artistic creations of the Arts Fest downtown, it’s now time to think about how you can contribute to the 3rd Annual UPLEA Arts Fest this fall. We would love to see and hear the products of your artistic passions.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 25, 11am-3pm, in the Mann Assembly Room, and consider reserving a space to display your artistic creations. Registration details coming soon. Even if you have presented in former shows, please consider participating again.

Artists needed in photography, painting, needlecrafts, fiber arts, ceramics and sculpture, wood crafts, jewelry making, culinary arts, performing arts, music and much more. Demonstrations are also welcome and encouraged. So start planning which of your works of art, literature and music you would like to share with your colleagues and friends in the libraries.

Added attractions: Welcome literary giants! This year’s Arts Fest will include a category for literary creations. So if you’re an aspiring writer and you would like to share your works with your colleagues, please consider reserving a space. Time slots will be reserved in Foster Auditorium for you if you would like to present a short piece of your work.

Remote artists: Once again, we are inviting our colleagues at the Commonwealth campuses to submit their art. Faculty and staff of the campuses are encouraged to submit text, photos or audio/video clips of their art which will be presented in a slide show in our virtual artist category.

Mark the date:
Wednesday, September 25, 11am-3pm, in the Mann Assembly Room. We hope you will share your talents with us.

Bake a cake for UPLEA

Did you know that YOUR employee association, UPLEA, has an annual party honoring YOUR birthday? It is a fun get together held in the Mann Assembly room.

This year’s scheduled date is February 12, but we need YOUR help and participation to make this party a great one. It’s quite simple, we just ask for volunteers to bake one cake for each month. In the past we have had some very creative cakes (and cupcakes)! To help out with this event, please e-mail Tracie Wickersham (tkw5002@psu.edu) and let her know which month you would like to bake a cake for. Thank you for your time and participation in helping to put on a fun event for your UPLEA!

UPLEA Meeting Open to All

By Joshua Wilkins

The University Park Libraries Employee Association (UPLEA) will have its first meeting of the year on January 16, from 1 – 2 p.m., in Paterno 126T, and would like you to come and see what we are all about!

UPLEA is made up of faculty, staff (full-time and part-time) and student volunteers. Our mission is to provide opportunities that encourage collegiality and foster a sense of community throughout the University Park Libraries. We accomplish this though social and service events throughout the year.

There is no applying, votes, or initiation needed to be a part of what we do, everyone at the University Libraries is already a member of UPLEA!

We would love for you to come and be an active participant with us as we do our part to bring the libraries together, having fun and improving the communities of Penn State and State College.
