Dr. Popescu’s lecture will discuss the challenges of healthcare preparedness for a spectrum of biological threats from antimicrobial resistance to special pathogens preparation. She will review the necessary stakeholders, existing shortcomings, and provide examples of public health events that have stressed this critical infrastructure. Hospitals and healthcare facilities are a key to responding to biological threats however, they also represent a significant vulnerability. Within this discussion, we will review the current state of U.S. healthcare biopreparedness, it’s past, and where it needs to move in the future.
