3D Modeling and Virtual Environments, Crowd Science & Spatial Cognition
My research group addresses challenges of how humans understand their spatial environments. Application areas are manifold from navigation, routing, and wayfinding, to communicating climate change, to concepts of landscape and land cover. Society is seeking answers to these questions through technology and education and through a multi-methodological approach students and post-docs in my group provide insights into these pressing questions.

We have developed efficient research frameworks for crowdscience and more recently focused on 3D modeling and Virtual Reality technologies. The quality and affordability of current developments in VR technology such as Oculus Rift open new research avenues for sciences interested in spatial environments: geography, (landscape) architecture, psychology, geosciences, to name just a view.

Students interested in our research have the option to chose from several topics that can either address human (e.g., cognition and decision making) or technology aspects (e.g., join the development of 3D models and VR applications). We have several VR systems available.
