Neuro

Neuro is a game about repairing a fractured human mind. It takes place in a bleak future where people have merged their minds and bodies with machines for the long-term survival of the human race.  These machine conversions were primarily prompted by a seemingly unending chilling wind. Conditions became much more survivable given the use of the equipment, but global relations are at constant unrest. This leads to a greater need for mercenaries, which additionally facilitates the technology. Now, try to imagine if the human brain could be hooked up to a server that would monitor and repair certain functions of the body. In the game world these servers exist and are almost fully implemented in society. The servers run two loops that regulate the human mind: one for physical processes, one for mental processes. When these loops become unbalanced the system attempts to resync them using an intelligent repair droid named Neuro. Neuro is the hero character of our game. It exists only to assist humans with their travels through life, and serves unwittingly and without hesitation. In fact the actual droid units are only active when the system is under duress. So Neuro is also the dying hero character of our game, as the system flushes excess when it’s finished repairs. Long before his death, however, he must travel across the mind in search of his tools. The idea of the system is that the human’s suspend mental state actually controls the droid unit, so the experience acts as a sort of reboot in which the human relearns different lessons of life, which facilitates the actual game narrative. Neuro repairs the mind using a tool we call the Linkbeam. Half grapple-gun, half hacking-tool, we believe it serves as our primary chance to make our gameplay interesting and unique. Using the Linkbeam, the player will guide Neuro through a perilous world of traps and beasts. The human mind is not such a safe place in this twisted future, and is filled to the brim with angry Distortions that will attempt to halt player progress via violent intervention. Subduing the beasts and taking full advantage of our Linkbeam device, the player’s romp through the mind should be a visceral and interesting one.
