Many benefits of music

Music is something that everyone has in common, whether you play in installment or listen to music like its your religion. Music has a big impact on our lives. In this article it gives you many different reasons why playing an instrument can impact your life. I think the number one benefit of playing an instrument is that it increasing the capacity of your brain. I totally agree with that, just from observing throughout my high school the kids that played an instrument mainly had more knowledge and better grades than the kids that didn’t play instruments.

Some of the benefits include increased responsibility, boosting them skills, expansion to cultural history, promotes social skills, relives stress and the list goes on and on.

Playing an instrument has so many benefits that its hard to see a reason why not to play one. Obviously now in our lives its harder to pick up and instrument and learn it but think out all the benefits that it could have on your children some day.

Holy Grail: Coconut oil

Its all the rage. Everyone is talking about it for many reasons. Coconut oil is gods gift to earth. I am a firm believer in coconut oil. I use it for everything from cooking to using inside and outside of my body. I hopped on the coconut oil train about two years ago. It has honestly changed my life. I know I sound so stupid saying that but its true. Coconut oil has done miracles for me from, clearing up acne, whitening my teeth, ridding my body of toxins, cooking, and unsticking doors.

But if you don’t believe me check out this post about coconut oil yourself. The health benefits of coconut oil are amazing. It contains lauric acid which raises both HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, which can improve the cholesterol profiles. It is possible that the antibacterial and antimicrobial properties can speed up metabolism and clear up acne. There is also a theory that coconut oil helps with Alzheimers disease.  Even though there hasn’t been any clinical trail and evidence that it helps it is said to have some impact. Hopefully they will look further into that. All in all coconut oil is an amazing product. Whatever you use it for always use it in moderation, you don’t want to over do it, things could get a little slippery!

Whats you acne telling you?

Lets be real, we all have acne. Wether its a pimple every now and then or they are constantly on your face. For me its usually while I’m menstruating and/or when there is a lot of stress in my life at that time. When you get a pimple you think “what the heck!”, “why me?” and many other thoughts. But have you ever thought what really triggers your acne?

In this article about acne, Chinese medicine had come up with an acne map. They have discovered that depending where you break out is caused from within in. In the article they have a virtual map that lets you click on the part of your face that has acne and it will tell you whats causing the acne. Thats pretty cool right?! I was able to figure out what triggers the acne on my chin/jaw area, and I will defiantly be trying what they recommend for the acne to go away.

They claim that face mapping isn’t always correct, but it can tell you what to look out for. The article also says to look out for what you are putting on and into your body. The disclaimer of the article is that what work for another person may not work for you. Don’t get discouraged if it dosent go away immediately, give your face time to heal.

Should eggs really be chilled?

Two years ago i went on a school trip to China, and while in china I stayed with a host family. I didn’t know how to speak the language very well but I knew some phrases. While out on an outing with my hose family we went to the grocery store in search of some items to make “An all american breakfast”. I was able to find everything I needed except for the eggs. I asked (meaning I typed into a translator), my host family why there wasn’t any eggs in the coolers, and they proceeded to laugh at me. Apparently in China they don’t store eggs in coolers, but rather they store them out on a counter.

That got me very puzzled, I just shrugged it off and continued to shop. But that experience has always lingers in the back of mind. Why does the US and a few other countries store our eggs in coolers but the rest of the world does not?

According to this article, the reason why some countries refrigerate their eggs and other don’t is how to go after bacteria in them or how much energy we want to put into having safe eggs. About one hundred years ago everyone washed their eggs but there were many ways to do it wrong. A batch of eggs from Australia spoiled and that left a bad impression on the British importers. With the help of machines, in the 1970’s the Department of Agriculture had created the perfect way to wash eggs and required all egg producers to do it. During that time many European countries didn’t like egg washing and Asian countries never hopped on the bandwagon.

Once you start the cleaning process, you must keep up with it and take care if the eggs. If you wash it once and then leave it, you are just spoiling the eggs. It is all about flushing out the bacteria and keeping with the process. If you just want to go crazy and eat non refrigerated eggs thats perfectly fine too. Just be cautious of where you are getting them from, but most likely when you buy eggs from a grocery store, in any country you won’t get sick.

Hello all, my name is Sarah Toyos and I am a freshmen from Bellefonte, PA. I am a local so I know my way around campus and the area pretty well. I am double majoring in Art History and Spanish. People keep telling me that my choice is a risky one, but it is something that I really enjoy. To be honest I am really bad and math and science, so this course seems like something that I can handle. I really enjoy that this is a course about critical thinking rather than right or wrong answers for the most part.

Honestly my favorite thing about science is Bill Nye. Watching his videos in my science classes throughout the years was how I learned the most about the topics we were studying. This video is Bill Nye explaining science education in US school systems.

This is also my favorite meme by far. It truly explains the american school systems. has-anyone-seen-america-bill-nye-comic
