Smeal Vets Head to Chicago

Despite multiple flight cancellations at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, the Smeal MBA veterans managed to land safely in the “windy city” for the 2014 MBA Veterans Conference. Because of the timing of the event this year, only four Smeal veterans managed to brave “pre-finals week” for the yearly trip to Chicago.

Just as in previous years, over 30 prestigious Fortune 500 companies traveled to the Continue reading

Impact Chronicle

By Ezra Nanes, MBA Class of 2012

I took a risk in committing the time and money to attend the Net Impact Conference at the end of October, and the payoff was immediate. I feared that being cooped up in a car for the 7-hour drive to Ann Arbor had the potential to suck, but the road trip was actually one of the best parts of the experience. Being “stuck” in a car with my classmates was both fun and really quite liberating. All we could do was talk and joke and listen to music – a precious luxury in the life of an MBA. I rode out with Susan Slopek, Matt Jones and Alex Rosenthal and rode back with Ryan Mallet, Rangarajan TC and Alex. We all share an interest in and a passion for sustainability in business, Continue reading

Solar Power International 2009 – Anaheim, CA

Brian Conry, Executive Director, PSEN, MBA Class of 2010

Sometime during my career search, I decided that I was going to get into solar energy. The industry has been given a new lease on life in recent years; the biggest benefit coming from stimulus programs, like the recovery act and renewable portfolio standards (to name a few). But looking at the list of corporate partners and recruiters that come to Penn State, the top five companies aren’t in the solar business. How was I going to meet solar companies and eventually land myself a job? Continue reading

NAWMBA National Conference & Career Fair

By Margret E. Ortega, MBA Class of 2010

For a day it was easy to forget that women are a minority in the MBA program and in the workforce. Everywhere I looked I saw women in business professional attire, shaking hands with recruiters and going in and out of the ladies room for a make-up retouch. I, along with other first year classmates, was at the National Women’s MBA Conference held in Stamford, Connecticut. Continue reading
