The Third Annual Transecting Society Conference (TSC): Affirming Trans* Lives, Advancing Trans* Politics will take place at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH on April 11-12, 2014. We are currently seeking proposals for papers, performances, and workshops related to trans* lives and/or trans* politics. We welcome proposals from artists, performers, activists, lawyers, social workers, policymakers, non-profit workers, undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, independent scholars, writers, and all others who are interested in affirming trans* lives and advancing trans* civil rights, human rights, and collective liberation. Topics may include (but are not limited to) the following:
Femaleness, femininity, misogyny, feminism, and trans* lives
Images and representations of trans* people in film, television, literature, and new media
The military industrial complex, militarism, trans* military lives, trans* military inclusion, media coverage of Chelsea Manning’s transition announcement, and trans* politics
Minority stress, trans* health, and trans* people cultivating inner peace
Past and present controversies involving trans* bodies, identities, expressions, and lives
Race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration, religion, racism, and trans* lives
Sex work, sex worker rights, and trans* lives
Teaching while trans*, learning while trans*, and trans* lives in education
Body image, weight, fatness, fatphobia and trans* lives
Disability justice, ableism and trans* lives
Violence against trans* people, the Transgender Day of Remembrance, hate crimes legislation, and trans* lives
In your proposal, please include your preferred name, your institutional affiliation (if any), your presentation title, and a description (100-300 words) of your presentation and how it will relate to conference themes. Please send the proposal as an email to proposals@transectingsociety.com by December 1, 2013.
The conference has a limited number of slots available for presentations via video call. These slots are reserved for presenters who cannot travel to the conference. If you would like to be considered for one of these slots, please specify this request in your proposal and explain why you cannot travel to the conference.
