Okay so maybe that’s not what they call it… but as a Jersey girl I couldn’t help but to be excited by the small taste of a New Jersey summer that I felt at Scheveningen in The Hague (or Den Haag) last weekend while exploring this new city with Christianna.  Scheveningen is a beach resort and popular tourist destination in the Netherlands including a boardwalk, pier, lighthouse, and more! Although we didn’t quite experience the “beach weather” we had hoped for, that didn’t stop us (or the other hundreds of people that covered the beach) from enjoying the day!

Although I was definitely attracted to the beach and boardwalk, The Hague is much more than a popular vacation spot! The Hague is actually where all of the Dutch government is located and home to the International Court of Justice and the Peace Palace as well. Although we weren’t able to go in, we were able to observe this incredible building from the outside. We were also able to observe this building, and all other major landmarks in the Netherlands at the Madurodam. The Madurodam is a miniature version of the Netherlands and one of the coolest tourist attractions I have ever seen! It featured interactive lessons about Dutch history, culture, food, etc. and included things like a miniature version of Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. Yet, on the other end, we were surprised to see gigantic versions of tulip fields and wooden clogs! Although probably one of the most touristy things we could have done, it was nice to cover the entirety of the Netherlands in just over an hour, and without having to take a single train!
