Hi everyone!
My experiment has been going great this past week. I’ve managed to schedule over 20 participants! Braunschweig students are notoriously hard to get to participate in experiments, so I’m fairly happy I’ve been able to get so many students. I’ve had no problems at all with running the experiment, and am now beginning my data analysis. My experiment deals with idiom comprehension, and part of the experiment is gathering data on which idioms participants know and which they do not. We tried to select 40 English idioms that would be fairly well-known by Braunschweig students, and the current data analysis shows we did a fairly good job! However, a few idioms are “lower frequency,” so we may need to cut those from the broader analysis.
On the non-experiment side of things, this past weekend I took a day trip to Cologne. I saw the Kölner Dom, which is the most visited tourist attraction in Germany. The Dom is right next to the central train station, so when I walked out and saw it I was immediately blown away by its massive scale. I walked to the top of the spire, and while I almost passed out from the number of stairs, I managed to get a beautiful view of the entire city.
I also went to the Cologne Chocolate Museum, the Roman-German History Museum, and the Ludwig Museum of modern art, where I got to see real-life Picasso paintings! It was an overall great experience, and I think Cologne might be my new favorite German city (barring Braunschweig, of course).
This upcoming weekend I’m planning on taking a day trip to Leipzig, so I’ll keep you updated on how things go. In the meantime, I’m going to keep trying to recruit participants as best as I can. Until next time, Tschüß!
How exciting!! So glad your study is going well and you are able to find time to tour around the city. Everything looks and sounds amazing. It seems like you had a blast during your travels.
