Every week brings new changes. My project needed new stimuli (real English words and fake ‘English’ words) that need to be recorded. Every time I get close to finishing it, there seems to be a new problem. Luckily, I have the speakers for the stimuli picked out. My advisor is one, who is a first language English speaker, and I have someone from the University of Granada who is a second language English speaker.
This past week has been pretty slow, which is a little unnerving. It felt like there wasn’t much progress made but that is because simply on my end I didn’t have much to do. I am waiting for the recordings to be completed so that I can move forwards with the rest of the things that I need to do.
What I’ve been discovering is that I am really sort of bad at computer coding. Hopefully with more practice, once the stimuli come in, I should get better and have a better understanding of all these programming applications.
There isn’t much of an update this week as not much has been happening. I’ll be excited once the recordings come in so that more progress can be made, on my end.
I can relate to some of your nerves on the waiting game. We are recruiting participants and now I just have to do everything I can, while relying a lot on others (something a little out of character for me) to do their part before moving forward. Especially being online, I think we are all growing in our patience and learning how to work with others!
I have so much faith that things will start picking up soon! It’s okay that things may seem slow now, as long as you’re prepared to go for it once everything is set up.
As for the computer coding, is there a specific language you’re using? From what I’ve learned, I know that R and Python can be really frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad!
