So I have been waiting for a while for my recordings of the stimuli to be emailed to me. The stimuli are three parts, words with an sC onset, filler words, and nonwords. All in English. I had asked my advisor to record (a natural English speaker) and my new friend Antonio from the University of Granada (a second language English speaker).
Speaking of Antonio, he sent me his recordings a few days ago! That was very exciting because it finally feels like something is happening. I’ve had to build my experiment from the ground up so it has taken me extra long to get every step done and finalized.
I finally finished analyzing Antonio’s stimuli in order to pick the best word in each set. Now I am just waiting for my advisor to send his in. I am glad that they weren’t sent at the same time because it was already overwhelming to listen and get through Antonio’s recordings, so having both of the recordings would have felt very heavy on my shoulders. All in all, it finally feels like something is happening, and I am very glad about it.
So happy to hear that you’re finally getting the stimuli and getting to work on it! It can be suspenseful waiting to start and then easily getting overwhelmed, so yes, it’s nice to go one step at a time.
Hearing about Antonio made me sad that I haven’t been able to make the friendships and connections I’d like to if I was actually traveling to Puerto Rico. Hopefully I’ll get to meet some people, maybe make some friends too, at some point in the future. It would make this whole experience a lot more culturally appealing!
