After long days of travel and trying to get over the jet-lag, I can officially say that I am back home and settled in after my trip. As good as it feels to be home, I must say that I really do miss Nijmegen. I had an incredible experience during my time abroad, and I can certainly say that it was an adventure that I will never forget. In our final week we enjoyed the nice weather and explored the town for the final times. We went to the beach for some days, and on our final night we had a big fancy dinner along the water to celebrate our journey. Then, Saturday we spent the day in Amsterdam as one last hoorah before we departed. We explored and got some of our favorite treats before heading back to our hotel for the night. Sunday we spent the whole day traveling by starting our morning with our 7 hour flight back, then we spent 8 hours in the airport as we awaited our flight back to State College. Luckily, the time flew by in the airport as we explored many different restaurants and terminals. Overall, it was a great end to my trip, and I hope to one day go back to the Netherlands.
As for research, our final week went by with no complications as we tested our final participants. We ended with 32 participants, which was lower than our original plan before arriving, but right on track for what we wanted once we got there. We were even able to recruit some participants the same day when we went and talked to people in the cafeteria. I am so glad we were able to conduct our research here; the environment was nothing but welcoming, and our labs were excellent. Not to mention all the fantastic people we met a long the way: our lovely lab manager, our fantastic advisor, and many of their students who helped us get to know the campus and recruit participants. To conclude, this was an incredible experience both educationally and recreationally, and I hope that more people get the chance to have an opportunity like this in their lifetime. Attached is a picture of our traveling group with our research advisor– we will all miss her very much.
8 hours in an airport sounds really rough, but I’m glad you got to spend the time well! I’m also glad to hear that your last week went smoothly, it’s always good to end on a high note.
