My seventh week in Puerto Rico was full of plenty of fun activities. Since Monday was Juneteenth, the university was closed so we could not schedule any participants, so I took a beach trip to Dorado instead! A friend and I stayed until sunset and then headed back to San Juan where we got sushi for dinner.
On Tuesday, we had a couple sets of participants so we spent the day in the lab and got our extra tasks done as well. On Tuesday night, Katherine and I saw a live performance of Hamilton in El Centro de Bellas Artes, a beautiful theater in Santurce. The show was spectacular and it was quite a cool experience to see it on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s home island.
On Wednesday, we ran participants early in the morning and then Jessica took us to her mother’s hair salon where we all got our hair done! It was awesome to get the chance to chat with a monolingual Spanish speaker for a while to really challenge my language skills. On Wednesday night, Katherine and I went out with some friends to Distrito T-Mobile where we had a karaoke night. Most of the songs were in Spanish, so I didn’t know most of them, but it was extra fun when I did know them.
Thursday was another day with participants in the afternoon, then I headed to the beach. I have been enjoying snorkeling in my free time, as there are plenty of beaches around with reefs that you can swim out to. This week I saw my octopus friend again, tons of cool fish, and a sea turtle!
Friday night, Feid, a Colombian reggaetonero, played a concert in San Juan, so I went with some friends and we had an awesome time. I loved being able to compare it to concerts that I have been to in the United States, as the venue and performance were similar, but the vibes were completely different.
On Saturday, Katherine and I went scuba diving and on Sunday we went to thePuerto Rico Museum of Art. What an awesome week jam-packed with fun activities! As the days are ticking away, I would like to continue fitting in as much fun as I can before I have to head back to the mainland. I look forward to seeing my friends and family from home, but I will miss Puerto Rico an awful lot, and will have to start planning my return very soon.
