After a super fun and packed week, I can’t believe to say we’re almost done. Kait and I got more participants this week and next week, which we hope to reach 32 by the end. Everyone in the lab is incredibly nice and I’m going to miss the connections we’ve made.
On Tuesday, we went to the Hello Kitty Cafe! I felt like I was in heaven the whole time. The decorations, the food, the menus, everything about it was wonderful. I even bought a tote bag! I took many pictures because I wanted to savor this day for a long time. Later that day we went to the Botanic Gardens, which were very pretty to see, but also disappointing because it was very hot that day, so we didn’t get to see much. For dinner, we went to our lab manager’s apartment to celebrate her birthday with her in-laws! We had tacos al pastor (my favorite) and tried mezcal plain for the first time. It was wonderful to hear about her in-law’s life on their farm and try the mother in law’s delicious tea!
On Thursday, we went to the university lab PI’s house for lunch. All the students who work in our psycholingusitic lab were there so it was super fun to get to know more about the people we’ve worked alongside all this time.
On Saturday, we went to Pride! The parade was located at the Angel of Independence avenue. There were so many people it was amazing! I was so happy to be there alongside my friends. We got so many souvenirs and pride merch (and pictures of course). For dinner we got the most delicious tacos I’ve had on the trip. Something about the way the meat was cooked just made it 10x better. Afterwards we went to this salsa bar called Mama Rumba! There was a live band and people were dancing around you. I got to brush up the little practice I had back in high school, and I loved it so much! My friend taught me some moves and I got the hang of it. Overall, the day was spectacular.
Finally, on Sunday, I got a tattoo! I’ve been wanting one for a while on this trip since my time in Mexico was special to me. Nick and I were super nervous going into it, but we calmed down during the whole process and it wasn’t too bad after all. I had gotten an image of a moon, from the loteria cards that are native here. I’m very happy with the result, and glad I got to make a new memory here.
¡Eslayamos!
