Hello! Our first week in Granada has flown by. Last Wednesday, Dr. Teresa Bajo was able to give us a tour or of the lab. It’s a very white, modern space with plenty of natural light and an amazing view. After the tour, we attended our first lab meeting. During the meeting, there was a really interesting presentation about teaching in multilingual learning spaces. The presenter was from Italy and had a lot of experience teaching people in both Italian and Chinese at the same time. I was surprised to hear that there is a town in Italy whose school has a 60% Chinese enrollment!

The next day, we brought our equipment to the lab and got set up in the space they provided for us. Everyone was super friendly, and they were more than happy to help with anything we needed. Today, we were able to run through a portion of our experiment to test if our equipment was still running properly. So far, we have not run into any issues “Knock on wood”. Over the next day or two, we will be setting up our participant recruitment pages on SONA and begin collecting our data.

Granada has been an amazing place to be. Simply by walking around, we ran into multiple landmarks and places to eat. A couple of the highlights were the “Catedral de Granada” and “La Alhambra”. They were both surprising places to find on our walk. For our fancy dish of week, a few of us split “Paella”. This was a flavorful meal with rice, muscles, shrimp and a couple other things. It definitely made my list of favorites. I am looking forward to spending more time exploring Granada and working in the lab!
