In terms of participants, it’s been a very slow week (I had no participants to test..). However, 2 people reached out, and they are scheduled for this upcoming week. Since changing the requirements for my study, I’ve put up flyers in different buildings than before – originally, I targeted areas that would most likely have more monolingual participants and avoided the science buildings, for example, because their curriculum is taught in English. Both Jin and Anna Raquel have said that they’ve had a good amount of responses from the natural sciences building, so that’s where I placed most of my new flyers. Fingers crossed that students coming for summer session will see mine and reach out.
Although the lack of participants was a big bummer, I’ve had one of my most fun weeks here so far. The week started off strong by going to the island Culebra to snorkel – I saw 3 turtles and lots of colorful fish! π The beaches there are so beautiful, and I’ve never seen such blue water. While at Playa Tamarindo, I tried tamarind juice (obviously) for the first time, and I enjoyed it so much that I bought some of the fruit at the supermarket.
The following day we took salsa (dancing) classes! π This was one of the most fun things I’ve done here so far. Getting dance with so many difference people as well as see so many talented dancers was something I’ve never experienced before. We plan on going back every week for either the lesson portion or the time afterwards that has live music. In addition to visiting new restaurants and visiting Panchi, we also visited viejo San Juan to see el Morro – there were a surprising amount of iguanas both on the grass and on the walls of the Morro itself. We spent the rest of our afternoon at the beach. π΄
Yay! So glad this week was lots of fun and experiencing the culture of PR. Hoping you get more participants this week and we make more fun memories this week too!
Hola!
I hope you get more participants soon but I am happy that you are taking the time to enjoy San Juan. The pictures are beautiful! Since you brought the tamarind fruit have you tried to make the juice?
