Well, my prediction was sadly correct. I had a session scheduled with 2 participants on Tuesday, and after waiting for 15 minutes past the scheduled time, only one participant showed up. I cannot conduct the trial with only one participant so I had to cancel. I also have not heard from the participant since the day before the trial was scheduled. I hope everything is okay, but it is also a bit discouraging. I have reached out to a few people who I have not heard from in a few weeks, with no response. This means I cannot really continue with my research until I have more Spanish-English bilinguals. But, instead of sitting around waiting, I believe my lab will begin to code the data we have already collected. Next meeting, we will be going over how to code the data, which will help a lot for the future. The sooner we get a jump on coding, the less we will have to do once all of the data has been collected!
Words of the week: stalling, momentum, international transaction fees
Hello,
This is so frustrating, but it seems to be the reality of remote research… I hope you get more participants soon, but it seems to all be a part of the process.
Hey Lillian! I’m sorry to hear about your attempted session – that’s really frustrating. It’s good that you’ll be able to code previous data in the meantime though! Good luck with recruiting and learning to code!
Hey Lily! Sorry to hear that some of your participants didn’t respond to your email. I understand how frustrating it is. Probably it’s summer time and everybody is busy with something. But I hope your participants will email you soon so that your experiment can continue! And I am also really excited about our data coding, it might be fun and looking forward to seeing the results so far!
Hi Lilian!
I think that the slowing of momentum and other forms of stalling have been an issue for many other PIRE students this summer (me included). It seems to be one of the main struggles of online research. Despite this I’m sure we’ll all get through it, and with the right amount of patience and determination things will catch up shortly. Good luck with everything!
