NASIG 32nd Annual Conference

Racing to the Crossroads
June 8 to 11, 2017
Indianapolis, IN

Publishers, vendors, librarians, and others in the fields of electronic resources and serials are encouraged to submit proposals relating to scholarly communication, publishing, resource acquisition, management, and discovery. Proposals based on emerging trends, case studies, and descriptive and experimental research findings are encouraged.  Proposals reflecting the conference theme will be especially valued.

As we have in recent years, the PPC specifically welcomes programs focusing on the Core Competencies that the NASIG Core Competency Task Force developed for Electronic Resources Librarians. Please refer to the Core Competencies.

Program topics inspired by the Core Competencies include:

●      Electronic resource life cycle and management

●      Collection analysis and development

●      Standards and systems of cataloging and classification, metadata, and indexing

●      Technology and providing access to electronic resources

●      Licensing and legal framework

●      Standards, initiatives, and best practices

●      Scholarly communication

●      Life cycle of print serials

●      Workflow of print resources

●      Effective communication with those within and without the library community

●      Supervision and management of staff in electronic and print serials departments

●      Personal qualities of electronic and/or print serials resources librarians

●      Management of projects related to electronic and/or print resources

Please use the online form to submit a proposal or program or idea. This Call for Proposals will close on December 13, 2016.

Please note the following:

●     The PPC welcomes proposals that are still in the formative stages, and may work with potential presenters to focus their proposals further.

●     Proposals should name any particular products or services that are integral to the content of the presentation. However, as a matter of NASIG policy, programs should not be used as a venue to promote or attack any product, service, or institution.

●     Time management issues generally limit each session to one to three speakers for conference sessions. Panels of four (4) or more speakers are discouraged must be discussed in advance with the Program Planning Committee (prog-plan@nasig.org)

●     Please refer to the NASIG reimbursement policy for reimbursement of speaker expenses.

●     All session speakers must complete a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) prior to speaking at the conference.

●     NASIG may provide online live streaming of presentation sessions, and all speakers will be required to give NASIG the right to stream this content.

Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services

The ALCTS Interest Group, Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services (RPLTS-IG) is seeking proposals for presentations at ALA Midwinter 2017 in Atlanta. RPLTS-IG will meet on January 21st, from 10:30am — 11:30am.
This year’s Midwinter tagline is “The Conversation Starts Here”, and to capitalize on that concept, we are particularly interested in proposals that can start conversations and elicit positive changes in library technical services. Presenters will be allotted approximately 20 minutes, with a short time for questions after the presentations.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:
–Special issues of diversity in technical services
–Fostering relationships and collaboration between technical services and other departments
–Advocacy for the needs of both professionals and paraprofessionals

ALCTS/LITA Library Linked Data Interest Group (LLD-IG)

The ALCTS/LITA Library Linked Data Interest Group (LLD-IG) seeks proposals for its meeting on Saturday, January 21st at 8:30-10:00 AM during the 2017 ALA
Midwinter Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. LLD-IG facilitates active
conversation among librarians and information professionals to discuss
projects, ideas, and practical use cases related to library linked data. We
welcome proposals that offer practical applications of library linked data and
encourage audience participation and discussion.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
• Linked data projects in libraries, museums, archives, and other
information communities.
• Developing tools to support cataloging, organizing, browsing, and
discovering resources using linked data.
• Developing ontologies or linked data applications.
• Collaborative linked data projects among diverse communities.

Washington (awashington@uh.edu) by November 14th, 2016. Your proposal should
include:
•       Proposal title

The Bulletin of the Technical Committee on Learning Technology (TCLT) aims
at publishing and disseminating current research about new and emerging
learning technologies as well as their design, usage, application, and
evaluation in different contexts of technology enhanced learning.

The special theme of this issue will focus on topics related to social and
collaborative learning supported through technology, including (but not
limited to) research on concepts and design of collaborative learning
systems and/or the use of technology to support social/collaborative
learning; practical applications of social and/or collaborative learning
through technology; systems and tools that support social and/or
collborative learning; case studies, exploratory studies and pilot studies
on social learning and/or collaborative learning supported through
technology; and evaluations and assessments of technology, systems and tools
that support social and/or collaborative learning.

Articles that are not in the area of the special theme are most welcome as
well and will be published in the regular article section. The Bulletin of
the Technical Committee on Learning Technology invites research articles for
the next issue. This issue will be published in Volume 18, Issue 3.

1. Authors have to follow the IEEE author guidelines when preparing their
articles (please see http://www.ieeetclt.org/content/authors-guidelines for
further information)

2. The articles in the bulletin are limited to 4 pages. Over-length articles
will not be published.

3. The manuscripts should be either in Word or RTF format. Any figures used
in the contributions would be required separately in a graphic format (gif
or jpeg). The figures should also be embedded in the text at appropriate
places.

2017 University of San Diego Digital Initiatives Symposium

Proposals are now being accepted for the Fourth Annual Digital Initiatives Symposium, May 1-2, 2017.  
 
Join University of San Diego’s Copley Library for the Fourth Annual Digital Initiative Symposium. 
This day and a half conference features workshops and user group meetings for a variety of institutional repository platforms, focusing on the digital elements of library ecosystems and institutional repositories. Registration opens December 5, 2016
 
$85 registration includes both the preconference and full-day conference
$75 registration includes full-day conference
$40 registration includes preconference workshops
 
Call for Proposals are being accepted for Tuesday, May 2, 2017 – Full Day Conference 
 
We are accepting proposals for 45-minute concurrent sessions, 90-minute panel discussions, and poster presentations. We welcome proposals from organizations, including colleges and universities of all sizes, community colleges, public libraries, special libraries, museums, and other cultural memory institutions.
 
This year, we are especially interested in proposals that consider:
  • data management and sharing, open data
  • open educational resources
  • digital initiatives in instruction and undergraduate research
  • roles for deans and directors in digital and institutional repository initiatives
  • roles for disciplinary faculty in digital and institutional repository initiatives
  • diverse repository platforms and functions
  • digital humanities
  • copyright and licensing
  • collaboration: interdisciplinary initiatives and collaboration within and between campuses
  • scholarly communication
  • technical applications related to platforms or tools
  • web archiving
Full-Day Conference Sessions
 
Panel discussions: 90 minutes
Concurrent sessions (case studies, white papers, demonstrations, or panels): 45 minutes
Poster sessions on digital project topics will take place in the afternoon.
Please plan on 10-15 minutes for questions, with panel and concurrent sessions.
 
All submissions will be evaluated based on the relevance of the topic and potential to advance thinking about digital initiatives, institutional repositories, and scholarly communication. Acceptance is competitive. Registration fees will be waived for accepted presenters.

Cataloging & Classification Quarterly Special issue: Assessment of Cataloging and Metadata Services

CQ call for papers: Assessment of Cataloging and Metadata Services

A special issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly will be devoted to an exploration of how cataloging units or organizations have conducted assessment of their workflows, services, quality of work, or the impact of their work on their respective institutions or society.

The guest editor invites submissions from professionals in cataloging and metadata, as well as other related disciplines. Submissions by authors outside North America and from a variety of library types (academic, public, special) are encouraged.

TOPICS

Case studies, historical surveys, and research studies are all of interest. Topics of interest include but are not restricted to:

 

  • Assessment of:

o   Cataloging and metadata workflows

o   Quality of cataloging and metadata

o   Services offered by cataloging and metadata units

The 2016 LITA Forum Committee seeks proposals for the 19th Annual Forum of the Library Information and Technology Association in Fort Worth Texas, November 17-20, 2016 at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel.

The Forum Committee welcomes proposals for full-day pre-conferences, concurrent sessions, or poster sessions related to all types of libraries: public, school, academic, government, special, and corporate. Collaborative and interactive concurrent sessions, such as panel discussions or short talks followed by open moderated discussions, are especially welcomed. We deliberately seek and strongly encourage submissions from underrepresented groups, such as women, people of color, the LGBT community and people with disabilities.

The Submission deadline is Friday April 29, 2016.

Proposals could relate to, but are not restricted to, any of the following topics:

  • Practical applications of linked data
  • Library spaces (virtual or physical)

Vendors wishing to submit a proposal should partner with a library representative who is testing/using the product.

Presenters will submit final presentation slides and/or electronic content (video, audio, etc.) to be made available on the web site following the event. Presenters are expected to register and participate in the Forum as attendees; a discounted registration rate will be offered.

SirsiDynix Northeast Region User Group

The Madigan Library at Pennsylvania College of Technology is pleased to host the 2016 SirsiDynix Northeast Region User Group. This conference is a great and affordable way to network with other Sirsi users, learn more about Sirsi systems and products, and hear colleagues speak about initiatives that they’ve tried or are currently trying within their libraries. Sirsi provides speakers for part of the program, but we’re looking to expand the offerings to include other sessions that interest you! If you have a topic that you would like to present at the conference on June 6 or 7, we would love to hear from you!

Additionally, we’ve already received requests for specific topics—RDA, MARC edit, and SIRSI reports—and are seeking users who would be interested in presenting on any of those topics.

To be considered for this opportunity, the form must be submitted by May 15th.  Notification of acceptance will be given by May 20th.

“E-Resource Round Up” column for Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship (JERL).

This is a call for contributions to the “E-Resource Round Up” column for volume 28, issue 2 of the Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship (JERL). Submissions can be related to any aspect of electronic resources and their use in libraries, including conference reports, professional discussion groups, meetings, and practices in using electronic resources

in-house. This would be a great opportunity for you to report on topics that may benefit others in our profession.

 

The editors would like to receive contributions to the column by Friday, February 19, 2016. Contributions should not be published elsewhere.
