Privacy Settings are Important

I am personally worried about Facebook and Google owning my data because they now have information about me that is very personal or unique to me and can hold it against me. Having two websites or apps that I use frequently owning my information doesn’t make me feel safe it makes me feel scared and antsy that anyone could find out my information at any given moment. Are there privacy settings that can block all these apps and websites from receiving your personal information? I never read the terms of use setting before signing up for an app or website because I never think about what could happen. Now I am going to start reading the terms of us before I agree to it because I feel I need to know what my privacy rights are and where my information is ending up.

We the customers need to be more on top of what we are agreeing too and who now has control of our information. We need to be aware of what could happen if we don’t know what we are signing and what could happen to our information. The fact that these apps and websites are in control of our data is terrifying. Google uses your search history and location to give you the websites that will benefit you the most. They are making your google search directed towards you and your needs as a customer. The reasons they do this makes you wonder is it for a business purpose to show the customers that Google knows you better than you think or is it to make you feel scared that Google knows a lot about you? In my classes we talk about how all these apps are always collecting data on your phone even when you aren’t using them and have exited the app. For example, if the microphone setting volume is on for a specific app like snapchat, the app will always be listening to what you are saying even when the app is not in use. You need to remember to turn the microphone off when done using the app.  Everyone needs to be aware of the privacy setting for each app and turn off location tracking and microphone usage. From all my classes I am currently taking are about technology and our privacy rights for each and every app we use makes me more aware of what I need to do to keep my information safe.

Internet vs Human interaction

Ever think about how big the internet is? The internet has gotten bigger and faster within the last decade. It is a scary concept to think about. How this generation is constantly going on the internet whether they are checking on social media, listening to music, watching movies, playing games, and/ or online shopping. Everything we need to survive is on the internet. According to the article, “we have become so equipped to just assuming that anything we need will be on the internet twenty-four-seven”.  When it comes to the internet, we have total freedom about what we can search and who we can talk too. The world has become too reliant on the internet that human interaction is not as important or anyone’s priorities anymore. Now n days people are always on the go, fast pace and using the internet to look up questions and concerns. Looking up things is a much faster way for people to find out information than asking someone and waiting for their response.

After reading so many articles about this specific topic I agree that my generation only cares about social media and the internet. The internet is way too big for one single person, company, or government to “own” or “run”. Eventually in a few years the need for human interaction will be gone and no one will care about meeting people in person or having conversations face-to-face.
