The Employee Protector

According to Occupational safety and Health administration, Healthcare workers have the highest rate of workplace violence, especially nurse, who are the most susceptible. Strongline, a company that decides to tackle this problem, invented a device with “a one-square-inch badge that nurses can discreetly pin to their name tags.” When pressed, the button sends a Bluetooth signal to the port, which can help from security and track where the alert originated. Currently, the company will be producing their products to the healthcare work forces, Strongline has signed with 14 hospital, making $2.5 million annually.

This invention is amazing as it protects people in the healthcare industry. The product has unlimited potential and can be utilized in other aspects as well, even in school, protecting children from bullies and pedophiles. The product should be essential in the workforce, as there are cases of unreported violence in the workplace happening around the world.

The growth of Tesla

China buys the most alternative energy vehicles in the world. The electric cars automaker, Tesla has declared for mass production of Tesla Model 3 in China. This Wednesday, the Chinese government has approved Tesla for the production, and currently, the company is in the low scale preparation for the process. This move benefits both Tesla and China, as this company are entering a huge market with high demand for electric vehicle, and China can have the upper hand in the trade war against the US. Tesla is also announcing that they will construct a factory outside of Berlin, and that facility will be responsible for Tesla’s European production. ( Szymkowski, 2019)

Tesla Model 3

As Tesla is going global, this will play an important role in fighting against climate change, as this electric vehicle is becoming more accessible than ever. This is an outstanding move by Elon Musk as it benefits his company and the environment.

Social Media Stalking

In my opinion social media has become way too much because of technology. Technology is becoming increasingly easy to stalk peoples every movement which i think is dangerous. Take something as simple as snapchat. Very easy concept, taking photos and sending them back and forwarth. But heres the problem. They have made it very easy to find where everyone is. They added snap-maps, geotags, ect. There is no secret to where people are anymore. As the years had gone on, there has become more and more social media stalkings and harassment because of technological advancements in apps. It’s gone far enough for strangers to start stalking people in real life.

I find it very strange to live in an era when your friends asks “where is ___” and then everyone immediately looks online to see instead of just calling and asking. I think we are losing touch of reality a bit with what social media has to offer now.

Overall, I think social media is a great tool and has been and to develop into something very new and trendy. But maybe going into locations should be put to an end and maybe instead add some new filters. Although most stalking doesn’t end or start with a random creepy stranger all the time, there is always a possibility. Is social media really worth the risk?

Data Privacy 2

Huge amount of data is all held by the firms. There are lots of sensitive data
including credit card information, income, account, password, browse history,
shopping history, etc. They are our privacy. These data is normally protected by
the companies. However, there are a tremendous amount of data snoopers and
malicious people trying to retrieve this data; even those companies use the privacy
data in an inappropriate way.

April 2010, Facebook launches Open Graph;
2013, 300,000 users took the psychographic personality test app “this is
your digital life”; 2016, Trump’s campaign invested heavily in Facebook ads; March 2018, reports revealed that 50 million (later revised to 87 million)
Facebook profiles were harvested for Cambridge Analytica and used for
Trump’s campaign; April 2018, Zuckerberg testified before congress.

The users were not even realizing that their data are offended. When it finally
turned out, people were indignant about Facebook and Cambridge. The stock of
Facebook sank tremendously, which definitely showed that data privacy was
something people really cared about.

Facebook is far from the only recent example of high profile data privacy
failures, although its practices have been found to be particularly egregious.
Equifax, Yahoo, Target, and even the government’s own Office of Personnel
Management have all accidentally exposed millions of American’s names,
addresses, dates of birth and social security numbers, the basic ingredients needed
to commit identity theft.

This is really the thing we should take into consideration.

Data privacy 1

Privacy has always been a critical issue around the world. With the advent of
the internet, all information is converted to bits, to binary, and to data. At the
current pace, data will essentially be worth more than money in the near future.
There are many companies that misuse this data for personal gain such as targeted
advertising. In a generation where the internet is taking over many aspects of life, it
is imperative that the users know exactly when and how their data is being
collected so that they can feel safe when being online. Before this era, one could
choose to make it very hard to identify their secrets. For example, if there was a
poor man who acts well, no one would be able to find his job or his income. You
may say how a person with nothing still emphasizes their right to privacy.
Protecting privacy is a basic human right, declared in the U.N. universal
declaration of human rights. Even people with nothing, they have a tendency
holding it instead of throwing it, which may be utilized by other; also, people with
less, they will hold tighter what they have. For people with higher hierarchy, it may
be dangerous if their privacy is leaking: for instance credit card information; for
companies, privacy also weigh a lot: future strategy, ideas, even scandals. Now,
things are becoming more transparent. According to statista, the number of internet
users in the United States from 2017 to 2023 (in millions): more than 80% of U.S. citizens are internet users. IPhone users send and receive just over 53 messages per day, on average. There are 76% of U.S. consumers who choose online shopping. All of these activities generate very large amounts of data. Though the U.S. has Sectoral laws, but the U.S. doesn’t have comprehensive laws for data privacy.

Meet Wi-Fi 6

This was new to me as well. Most people don’t know that Wi-Fi changes and updates just like other innovations. The next-generation Wi-Fi, called Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax), will hit the market not long from now and help with faster speeds, including gigabit associations like 10G, and other upgrades. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 is backwards compatible, which means in the event that somebody purchases another smart speaker that runs the new standard, it will still work fine on Wi-Fi 5, it just won’t get the newer benefits. Efficiency is the key to making this Wi-Fi 6 extraordinary. A significant number of updates are creative arrangements that will allow Wi-Fi capacities to work better.

OFDMA, Modulation, MIMO and Battery Life are some of the highlights of this new generation WI-Fi.

OFDMA (orthogonal frequency division multiple access) will have each Wi-Fi channel divided into hundreds of smaller channels called resource units. Since resource units can be assigned to individual devices, it allows multiple transmissions to take place at the same time, allowing a smooth flow of connection even when multiple devices are trying to use the same network at a time.

Modulation will basically increase the network speeds.

MIMO (multiple-in, multiple-out) will be able to send the same data as several signals, using a single wi-fi channel. This will allow better quality and quantity data to be sent over wi-fi network.

Battery Life

Wi-fi 6 has shown to improve the battery life of the devices that are using the network, due to higher speeds consuming less energy.

North Korea: Strictest Internet Censorships

By disconnecting a nation from the world, censorship hinders the advancement of society by restricting access to information. By doing this, a nation’s government also has the power to shape individuals’ view of the world and forces them to blindly agree with the media that is allowed. In this sense, governments are able to extend their hold over what people say and do. In 2017, North Korea was ranked the worst in the world in terms of freedom of media and censorship problems. All media outlets are owned and controlled by the government of North Korea. All civil and political liberties, including freedom of expression, assembly, association, and religion. In a world where there is no time to stop anymore, where people are constantly inventing and creating, North Korean artists, engineers, scientists, writers, educators etc are unable to learn and cope with the advancements and developments outside of the country.

“Nothing can ever justify people being thrown in detention for trying to fulfill a basic human need- to connect with their family and friends” says Arnold Fang, East Asia Researcher at Amnesty International. The use of mobile phones and outside information is restricted, showing the intensified controls, repression and intimidation of the population since Kim Jung-un came to power in 2011.

The people of North Korea are deprived of what we call basic human rights. The authorities control and conceal in order to maintain their dictatorship and power. Citizens are unable to express their miserable situations let alone learn from the outside world. People who try to escape or use any form of media or technology and are caught are sent to reform facilities, political prison camps or sometimes even executed.

North Korea is just one example that proves censorship is not justified because of its detrimental effects on a nation’s development and the rights of its citizens.

The growth of Video game industry

Video game is one of the fastest blooming industry, it is expected to reach $300 billion in revenue by 2025. However, the gaming industry has changed from single player games to online free to play games. This kind of video games has contributed in the growth of video game industry, and the eSport industry as well.

Free-to-play games, as the name suggested, are games that are completely free to register to play, and these games are often online games. Because it is free to play, people often have misconceptions on how these games are not regenerating any revenue. However, the developers are making profits from in-game items such as skins, cars, weapons,… Fortnite, League of Legends, and Apex legends are the biggest names in this industry, and their business model is no different. Fortnite generated one billion dollars in revenue thanks to its sale of in-game items.

Newzoo: Global Esports Revenue Streams 2019

Prediction of eSport’s growth

This Free-to-play model also has a propelling the eSport industry as well such as Fortnite World Cup, League of Legends World Championships and such. In 2019, the global total viewership will exceed 453.8 million audience, which could generate one billion dollars in revenue by this year. These huge numbers of audience attract investors as well, and the relationship expands both ends. Video games industry is a huge industry, with no signs of stopping in growth.

The Streaming Service Race

As we are all just two days away from the drop of Disney’s new streaming service I think that it is fitting that I dive into the problems that are arising from the creation of new streaming services. Like most Americans, I am currently subscribed to multiple streaming services. This is becoming a problem because I have found that I am paying more money because just one streaming service doesn’t cut it anymore. As more companies develop new streaming services, the current streaming services are losing content. For example, I myself have watched the entirety of “Friends” close to five times now, but it turns out that this show will soon no longer be a part of my Netflix subscription.

As these new streaming services arise, they pick away at one another for content and clients. So instead of being able to stream the majority of the shows that I like on one or two platforms, I find myself having to pay more money for the same shows on different services. The creation of Disney Plus alone will take away an enormous amount of content from Netflix. This is a relevant problem because there really isn’t any end in sight.

Fighting Malaria with Drones

Tanzania, like every other country in Eastern Africa, is suffering from Malaria. This disease has been infecting 10 million people, and the cause of fatality of 80000 people annually. The efforts of preventing this disease has been proven to be ineffective, as manual spraying is costly and time consuming. (Wright 2019)

Training session on the DJI Agras MG1-S spray drone against malaria, in Tanzania.Radboud University ‘s entomologist Bart Knols, University of Nairobi’s Richard Mukabana, and entrepreneur Guido Welter have come up with the idea of using drones to spray control agent to kill mosquitoes’ larvae. This substance is Aquantain AMF, it is non-toxic and biodegradable which will be sprayed through out the rural Africa. This will also allow the locals to learn new techniques and applications to the usage of drones to perform business and technical practices as well. (Wright 2019)

This method is claimed to be the first-time human uses drones to fight against mosquitoes. Drone does not just benefit human’s health, but their productivity to produce commercial products, hence, higher GDP. It is also a lot more effective when it comes to price and time as well (Wright 2019). It is an outstanding way of using technology, and I hope this method will be applied to more countries that are suffering from such epidemics as well.
